Green School – Green Kindergarten
Transforming Education Through Nature in Sarajevo
Why This Matters
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, only 12% of schools integrate sustainability into daily learning (UNDP, 2023). Urban children spend less than 1 hour per week outdoors, missing vital connections to nature. Our project addresses this gap by creating a living classroom where children aged 3–14 explore STEM, health, and teamwork through gardening, composting, and renewable energy projects.
Our Innovative Solution
A 500m² bio-intensive garden located between two pioneering schools:
- Internationale Deutsche Schule Sarajevo (IDSS): German academic rigor meets STEM innovation.
- Montessori House Sarajevo (IMH): Child-led, sensory-based learning at its best.
Unique Value
✓Interdisciplinary Curriculum: Combines science, art, and language (German/English) through nature.
✓Community Hub: Scouts, parents, and local experts co-design the space.
✓Scalable Model: Replication Toolkit to expand the model across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
