Transforming Education Through Nature in Sarajevo

Why This Matters
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, only 12% of schools integrate sustainability into daily learning (UNDP, 2023). Urban children spend less than 1 hour per week outdoors, missing vital connections to nature. Our project addresses this gap by creating a living classroom where children aged 3–14 explore STEM, health, and teamwork through gardening, composting, and renewable energy projects.

Our Innovative Solution
A 500m² bio-intensive garden located between two pioneering schools:

  • Internationale Deutsche Schule Sarajevo (IDSS): German academic rigor meets STEM innovation.
  • Montessori House Sarajevo (IMH): Child-led, sensory-based learning at its best.

Unique Value

Interdisciplinary Curriculum: Combines science, art, and language
(German/English) through nature.

Community Hub: Scouts, parents, and local experts co-design the space.

Scalable Model: Replication Toolkit to expand the model across
Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Impact (Phase 1: Sept 2025 – Jun 2026)
